Bound dark green cloth with gold lettering on front cover--lightly soiled, red page edges, brown endpapers, pages lightly tanning, contents clean good+ condition. Pagination: 36pp, frontispiece of the church, one other illustration of the interior of the church, diagram of pews, pp.35-36 blank except for page numbers and heading "Important Church Events." Page 18 discusses "The Calvary Mission has its field among the colored people of Englewood. This enterprise includes a Sunday School, a weekly Prayer Meeting, and an Evening Service on the Lord's Day..." It lists 93 "scholars enrolled." Page 19 concerns "The Friendly Society." "The object of this Society is the elevation of the moral and religious life of the colored women of Englewood. The method of the work is similar to that of the Helping Hand. Ten cents an hour is allowd to each woman for her time and work, and the garments are earned at that rate..." "The principal object of The Helping Hand is to give material relief to poor women in New York City, in the way of new, substantial clothing made by themselves, and earned by their time and work, for which they are credited with twelve cents an hour."
