Bound full acid stained calf with gilt spine, raised bands outlined in three gilt fillets and one dotted line, center of raised band with gilt dotted line, spine compartments with floral/vine design, covers outline in dotted line pattern with 1.2cm wide floral/vine design, leather starting to split top 2cm of front hinge, dark green endpapers, long tear along the inner margin of the leaf comprising pp319-320 repaired with thin archival paper, light to medium foxing. A very nice binding.

Early signature on front free endpaper of "Alfred Perkins, Warren Ohio." Also on same page in light pencil: "Dr. Heenny B. Pink, Warren, Trumbull Co., Ohio."

Collation: A-Z6, 2A-2Z6, 3A-3E6. Pagination: (1) title, (1) contents, 2-499 Old Test., (1) table measures etc., (1) N.T. title, (1) dates of N.T.books, 503-655 New Test., 656-660 contents of Bible by chapter. Hills: English Bible in America #588.

The two volumes are bound in matching black morocco with a gilt cross on each front cover and gilt title on each spine, a blind tool roll around the edges of covers, nice gilt/red page edges, black endpapers, contents clean. "Hymns A & M" has two 3mm gouges in spine and a slight vertical crease down spine. The two volumes are housed in a black morocco slip case case with double plain fillets around edges with lines of dots between, the case has a morocco carry strap attached with two morocco covered button. The two volume fit vertically in the slip case from the top. The carry strap hinges out of the way on it button to be able to remove the books. The carry strap is complete and intact but a bit fragile with small splits in the surface leather.

This is a very charming set in very good condition.

Small Polish Prayer Book, Printed in Grudziadz, Poland, 1926, Leather, with Hidden Pocket inside rear cover 1926 Leather Bound padded black morocco covers with simple gilt & green tooled vine, flower & cross on front cover; gilt title on spine. Working strap & snap; gilt & red page edges are gauffered. Black cloth front endpapers and rear free endpaper. Paste-down rear endpaper is tooled in gilt with a decorative edge and gilt candlestick plus line designs and 4 round balls at bottom; top half with green flap tooled with gilt cross & border, that lifts up to reveal a circular pocket lined with blue, red & green floral design. There is an insert to the pocket that moves up and down when the leather strap is moved up and down. Title printed in read & black; all pages printed within red ruled border. Leather is wearing and split 1-3mm at top and bottom of both hinges; leather rubbed some and just wearing through at three corners; page edges worn some with several starts, pages tanned. 6.1 x 9.8cm Grudziadz, Poland

Elaborate morocco gilt black leather binding. 1870 Leather--Elaborate gilt morocco leather split along front hinge, front cover has been re-attached with a piece of linen cloth slipped under leather to form a new hinge, hinge is sound, vertical wrinkle in spine leather, edges with about half of the gilt worn away, decorated endpapers--with gold stars and blue leaves, lacks front free endpaper, large corner torn from rear free endpaper plus a small hole and chips in the outer edge, first few page edges worn, light foxing--heavier on first and last few pages. 16mo, 12 x 18.7cm Nashville, TN Pencil inscription on front flyleaf: "To Miss M. This is quite a nice Southern Methodist discipline with full elaborate gilt morocco binding and wide margins with text printed within ruled borders.
