Bound original tan paper over boards, spine nicely rebacked in modern acid-free tan paper with printed paper title label, original tan paper soiled and rubbed--worn through paper at all edges, damp spots on rear cover, untrimmed page edges, medium foxing throughout--heavier foxing on endpapers. Includes front & rear free-endpapers and flyleaves. Pencil name upside down on front free endpaper. Collation: A-R6, S4, T2, T-Z6, 2A-2E6. Pagination: (1) title, (1) copyright, (1) to the public, (1) blank, v-viii introduction, 9-359, (1) blank. Page 359 has a printed slip pasted over previous text that reads: "Having read all the proofs of this discussion, I certify, that the reader has, substantially, as correctly as under all the circumstances could have been expected, a fair representation of the whole discussion. March 7, 1837. A. Campbell." Famous debate between Campbell & Purcell. J. J Haley notes in his Debates that Made History, that this was the only time in America when a Roman church official debated a Protestant pastor.
