George Horne (1730-92) Bishop of Norwich. "Though an adherent of High Church principles, he was in sympathy with the spiritual earnestness of the Methodists and refused to forbid John Wesley to preach in his diocese... Nicely bound in black half leather (spine & corners) with gilt spine and orange-brown gilt morocco spine labels, multi-color marbled paper over boards, spines are tooled in a x pattern, leather is rubbed some at extremities, 2mm & 4mm long worm holes in leather of rear hinge of vol 1, marbled paper rubbed some and wearing through marbling, small & large pieces of marbled paper chipped or worn away, 2 color orange & light tan marbled page edges, brown endpapers with stains, light foxing, otherwise contents good+ condition.

Vol. 1` with a steel engraving portrait of Horne, and the engraved title with a steel engraving two cherubs in cloud above kneeling & praying young lady. 2nd volume's engraved title of the two cherubs and the young lady has now joined them in the clouds. All three engraved by A.W. Warren. (17925)
