Tyng (1800-1885) clergyman of the Protestant Episcopal Church; a graduate of Harvard (1817), he studied theology in Bristol, R.I. under the direction of Bishop Griswold in 1819-21, after a number of other pastorates was called as rector of St. George's church, NY for over 30 years. ""He was distinguished for eloquence in the pulpit, and also for able and effective temperance and patriotic addresses. For many years he was a leader among that part of the clergy known as low churchmen.
